“5 cm”, it’s told about five best friends: Arial, Zafran, Riani, Ian, and Genta. They have been known each other for seven years. Each of them has their own character and it was explained in prologue. Those five friends have unique habits. They almost have same taste of music, same dreams, love all kinds of film except Indian Movie because they thought that every problem in this world has a way out, but not with dance.

One day, the five friends decided to temporary separate because they felt so saturated each other. They agreed for meet again after three months later, at August 14^th.

After three months, finally they meet again and together did an expedition to Mahameru Mount, Malang. And the story goes to their journey to the top of Mahameru Mount, the highest land at Java. The journey described gives them so many learning about life for their selves.

What things that make me interest with this book are the cover of this book and the writer’s description, especially when the writer described the journey, which is started from Senen Station to Mahameru Mount. I feel truly in that place too, which are like freeze at Ranu Kumbolo or frightened at the mystic Arco Podo.

The ‘plus’ mark in this book is so many beautiful quotes and lyrics, also reference of good movies.

I just little disturbed when the writer told about Socrates, Plato, Relativity Theory, even though it were explained in simple words. And the epilogue too, when it was forwarded to ‘Ten Years Later’, I think it’s broke the soul of this book and not to important.

But, overall this book is so good for you who have like read book about life, love, friendship, philosophy, humor, etc. Two thumbs up for Donny Dhirgantoro!

And… this is the philosophy of ‘5 cm’:

“Let your faith floating 5 cm in front of your fore head. And after that…All you need are just feet those will walk further than usual, hands those will do more than usual, eyes those will look longer than usual, neck that will be more often look up, will that thousand times harder than steel, and heart that will work harder than usual, and also mouth that will always pray.

Not just ordinary human being without direction and lose by condition. But someone who believes with the miracle of dream, miracle of desire, and miracle of human’s faith that isn’t calculate with any number.

And you don’t need a proof that your dreams will come true because you just must believe it.
